At the end of my senior year of high school, I wanted to make something to give to my friends before we all went off to different places.  My nerdy friends and I love My Neighbor Totoro so I decided to make him!

I made eight of them and it wasn’t too expensive for an almost college student with no job!

  • Gray and White Felt
  • Stuffing
  • Thread
  • Fabric Glue
  • Scissors

See? Easy!

I made my own pattern for it.  He’s a pretty simple shape, so I just outlined the silhouette in the gray fabric, then cut out a nice hole in the front piece.  I cut a bigger circle out of the white fabric and sewed (from the inside) around the circumference.  Next, place the two gray pieces right sides facing together and sew around the edge leaving the bottom open.  Flip inside out, stuff, then sew up the hole.  Finally cut out pieces for the marks on his chest and his eyes and simply glue them on.

Presto! The cutest Totoro ever in just a couple of hours! (I think… I did them all spread out and I don’t remember how long any individual one took >.<)
